SUMMARY: The Senior Marketing & Strategic Communications Officer works closely with the marketing & strategic communications director in developing and implementing marketing and communications strategies and tactics that are aligned with the foundation's mission, values, key messages and strategic priorities.

The statewide initiatives team is led by the public affairs director and focuses on improving educational outcomes for youth experiencing foster care or unaccompanied homelessness through the Washington Passport Network (WPN). It also helps to enroll qualified students in Washington state's College Bound Scholarship program to close the attainment gap for low-income students.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Website content management: Create and edit dynamic content for websites. Support redesign or refresh of website, as needed.
  • Social media management: Manage social media channels. Track, evaluate and summarize analysis for all interactive marketing media platforms (website, social media) and provide regular reports for continuous improvement.
  • Public relations: Support public relations activities, including news releases, interviews, op-ed pieces, pitch letters and story follow-up pieces. Update and maintain the website media centers.
  • Content creation: Help write a variety of marketing content including brochures, publications, various collateral for various audiences of scholars and external supporters.
  • Storytelling: Collaborate with colleagues to interview, write and publish stories about organizational impact, programs, scholars, alumni, staff and supporters.
  • Works collaboratively to provide broad-based marketing and strategic communications thought-leadership support to our statewide initiatives team.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; including writing and editing for voice and tone.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and thrive in dynamic work environment.
  • Strategic problem-solving.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across a multi-functional team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office365 tools (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint); Adobe Acrobat and WordPress.

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of relevant and progressive professional experience in marketing and strategic communications.
  • Experience working in matrix organization and with nonprofit programs is preferred.
  • Nonprofit experience is a plus.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment is moderately quiet. Employees must be able to handle stress that is involved in meeting strenuous customer deadlines, working in high volume areas and be flexible and able to interact with employees and students of all levels.
